Breast Augmentation

Who must have a breast augmentation surgery?

Women with small or medium sized breasts and women whose breasts are emptied after breastfeeding are ideal candidates for breast augmentation surgery.

In surgical breast augmentation procedures, small breasts are augmented, while aiming at ensuring the proportion between the two breasts, and creating the size most suitable for body sizes. Besides the patient's desires, there are also certain factors to take into consideration in the selection of the implant, such as the patient’s body structure, condition of her thoracic cage, and skin structure. A wide range of new generation breast implants are available. Therefore, it is possible to find a silicone implant suitable for any body structure.

Breast augmentation operations are generally preferred by young and middle-aged patients. It is a rule to wait for the completion of the development of the breasts. Except for special cases, implant placement surgery is not performed before the age of 18.

In recent years, fat injections have been preferred to implant placement procedures in breast augmentation. One of the problems in fat injections is the inability to obtain a clear result and desired sizes, to the same extent achievable with an implant placement operation. Therefore, the procedure needs to be frequently repeated several times. Stem cell-enriched fat injections can be applied to enhance the durability. In such a case, durability up to 80% can be achieved.

Every surgical operation leaves a scar on the body. Breast augmentation operations are among the ones that leave minimum scar. Implants can be placed through an incision made under the breast (inframammary fold), in the nipple area, or under the armpit (axillary). Recently, inframammary fold incisions are the most commonly preferred incisions in the world, and they are considered to be the safest approach. This incision leaves the scar in the inframammary fold.

How is the degree of the breast's bigness determined?

Breast augmentation is determined based on the body structure of the patient. The criteria are as follows:

  • The patient's height, weight, and general body structure are taken into consideration. Bigger implants can be used in taller and overweight patients.
  • The shape of the patient's thoracic cage is taken into consideration.
  • The patient's existing breasts size and breast tissue are taken into consideration.
  • The degree of sagging in the patient's breasts is determined.
  • The symmetry of the breasts is paid attention to.

What are experienced after the surgery?

  • Patients are usually discharged on the same day. Maximum 1 night hospital stay is estimated.
  • The patient can move and walk;
  • Can continue her daily activities;
  • Should wear an athletic bra;
  • Should not lift heavy things, and should not drive a vehicle;
  • Should lie on back for the first 2 weeks.
  • After 5-7 days, the first checks are performed and the patient can take a shower.
